Dear Colleagues,
I am writing to invite you to attend a program titled, "Affirmative Action: Where Do We Stand?," scheduled for September 29 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the Michigan Union Ballroom. In addition to myself, speakers will be Jeffrey Lehman, dean of the Law School and John Payton, attorney with Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering, the Washington, D.C., firm representing the University in our affirmative action lawsuits. Marvin Krislov, vice president and general counsel, will moderate.
During this presentation we will share information on the history of the lawsuits, the philosophy behind the University's commitment to a diverse campus, and an update on the legal status of the cases, resulting from developments that took place over the summer months. There will be an opportunity for questions and answers.
All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend. I look forward to seeing you there.
Best wishes,
Linda D. McMichael
